This
week we were really wrapping things up. We did the last two years of
our game simulation. This went really well for us. We finally got
things moving since we had the chance to meet as a group ahead of time
and really figure out where we wanted to take things. This game seems
to take a long to to be successful at. I wish we were able to finish
the game, or do more years that way we could see how well we really were
understanding it!
The biggest thing this simulation made me do was think about all of the
things that have to go into making a major change. For example, there
are many little things that go on behind the scenes to make changes
happen. People get surveyed, their attitudes are assessed, and
administration needs to always be in the know for anything to change.
This happened to be our groups weakest link. We would always seem to
forget to talk with administration whenever we did many things. Once we
figured out this was the trick to success, we did much better. I think
that when you are not typically a part of the changes, you forget all
of the behind the scenes and little things you need to do to be
successful.
Crystal,
ReplyDeleteyou made an excellent point about those who do not normally play a big role in making system wide changes forget all of the behind the scenes work involved--how do you think this experience in the simulation and course will impact the way you receive change in your workplace in the future? Also, do you see yourself becoming more of an active participant in any future changes at your school or in your district?
Crystal,
ReplyDeleteOur group struggled with discussing with administration at the beginning as well. Once we figured that out, it was pretty smooth sailing in year 1. As long as we kept them informed during the simulation, we seemed to continue fairly smoothly. I think that is the same in real life. If you include your administration, life is much easier!
